Safety

Boomerangs should not be considered toys. Throwing boomerangs should be done with safety in mind.
Boomerangs is a technique-based sport that requires a lot of spinning on your boomerang to get a good return. It doesn’t have to be hard. You can throw it with maximum spin. The boomerang’s return is made possible by the spin. Throwing safely can make throwing more enjoyable and easier. It’s great to watch a boomerang turn around and come back at you. Remember that you are the target!

Safety Tips

One boomerang should only be thrown at once. You should ensure that everyone around you is at least 50m away from the boomerang and that they are watching what you do. Under adult supervision, children should not throw.

Never throw your boomerang at anyone. Never throw your boomerang at or to anyone. A minimum of 100 x 100 meter of space is required for competition boomerangs.

Only experienced throwers should be throwing competition-level boomerangs. Because they can travel up to 180 metres, they require more space. They can spin faster, which can make them dangerous for novice throwers. You can throw them up to 180m away and return with long-distance boomerangs.

Avoid throwing your boomerang when it is windy or gusty, especially if you are learning how to throw. Ideal is a calm, mild breeze.

When catching boomerangs, it is a good idea to wear protective eyewear. Never catch your boomerang below eye level. Before attempting to catch the boomerang, wait until it is at least shoulder-high.

Your boomerang should never be thrown flat like a frisbee. To avoid dangerous diving or swooping, the boomerang should be released nearly vertically.

Don’t throw too much if you’re just starting to throw. A half-powered throw will usually be enough to bring the boomerang back. To increase your range and flight time, you will need to improve your throwing skills.

Enjoy yourself, but be safe. If you don’t take the necessary precautions, boomerangs can prove dangerous.
