The suburb’s name is in honor of Thomas Gladstone, who was a landowner in the local area in early 1800s. Development of the suburb’s residential areas was initiated in the 1960s, as an estate belonging to the Tullamarine estate. The majority of the houses in the area were constructed from 1972 to 1975 as component of (then) Melbourne’s suburban outer expansion. The first post office opened on the 4th of February, 1985 when the suburb was growing.
