Our School and Our Values

Glenroy College, a co-educational school for Year 7-12 in Melbourne’s northern suburbs is located 13 km from the CBD. The students come from Glenroy, Coburg Oak Park, Hadfield, Pascoe Vale, and Coburg. We are proud of the diversity in our school community and believe that all students can reach a high standard.

A multi-million-dollar redevelopment of the College was completed in September. The College now has spacious, state-of-the art learning and administrative spaces for students and staff. New additions to the College’s library and resource center, junior and senior school wings, and specialist Arts and Technology spaces are among the $9 million. A well-equipped gymnasium, performing arts center, science centre, and undercover canteen are all part of the College. When the College redevelopment is completed in early 2021, a series of passive green recreational outdoor spaces will be made available to students.

The College has 500 students, which allows it to build a strong pastoral relationship with each student. It also maintains a 21-member mean class to maximize academic output. The College places a high priority on attendance and effort. Every lesson, students have their rolls marked and parents are contacted if they are absent. It is important to have a strong partnership between home and school. Teachers report to parents via progress reports, reporting nights, and individual interviews.

 

Curriculum

Glenroy College’s curriculum is designed to accommodate different learning levels. Students Voice and student leadership are real contributors to college programs and structures. Our goal is to offer students a viable path that includes both vocational and academic opportunities. Our College has specialised literacy and numeracy programs. These goals are achieved by our teachers who are committed to professional learning.

The Victorian Curriculum is used to guide students from year 7 through 10. It includes a rigorous testing program to help teachers plan and set student goals. For students who are capable, Year 10 offers alternative pathways to academic and vocational work and VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education). Year 11 and 12 provide formal pathways through VCE (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) and VCAL.
